Brand-Safe Sourcing 2026: Dropship eBay Without VERO Strikes
A VERO strike can suspend your account overnight, with no warning and little recourse. The good news: it is almost entirely avoidable with the right sourcing habits. Here is how to stay brand-safe.
What VERO Is & Why It Is So Harsh
VERO is eBay's Verified Rights Owner programme. Brands enrolled in it can report listings that use their name or images without authorisation, and eBay removes them — often instantly, sometimes with an account-level strike. Because it is the rights owner reporting, eBay rarely takes your side. A handful of VERO strikes can end an account. See the full VERO brand list.
Rule 1: Source Generic, Unbranded Products
The simplest protection is to sell products that have no brand to protect. Generic home, garden, kitchen, and accessory items cannot trigger VERO because no rights owner is involved. This overlaps neatly with the low-risk categories that also avoid restricted-item problems.
Rule 2: Use Compatible-With Correctly
You can sell a generic accessory that fits a branded product — but the wording matters. "Case compatible with iPhone" is acceptable; "iPhone case" implying it is an Apple product is not. Lead with your generic product, then state compatibility. Never use the brand as if the item is theirs.
Rule 3: Never Use Brand Images
Copying a brand's official photos is one of the most common VERO triggers. Use the supplier's generic images of the actual generic product, not marketing shots lifted from a brand site.
Rule 4: Avoid Counterfeit Signals
Words like replica, inspired by, dupe, or style-of next to a brand name flag a fake instantly. These are an automatic removal and a strike. Cut them entirely. Our trigger words guide lists the worst offenders.
Rule 5: Screen Before You List
Even careful sellers slip a brand word into a title pulled from a supplier. The fix is a check before publishing: scan every title and description against the VERO list and the restricted-words list, and fix or skip anything flagged. This single habit prevents the vast majority of strikes.
