How to Start eBay Dropshipping in 2026: Beginner's Guide

eBay dropshipping lets you sell products online without holding any stock. You list products, customers buy them, and you order from a supplier who ships directly to the buyer. Here is how to get started.

What is eBay Dropshipping?

Dropshipping is a business model where you sell products you do not own or store. When a customer buys from your eBay store, you purchase the product from a third-party supplier (like Amazon or AliExpress) who ships it directly to the customer.

You never touch the product. Your job is finding profitable products, creating great listings, and providing customer service.

Is eBay Dropshipping Legal?

Yes. eBay explicitly allows dropshipping as long as you meet their requirements: you must guarantee delivery within the stated timeframe, handle all customer service, and accept returns. What eBay does not allow is listing products you cannot actually deliver.

Two Dropshipping Models

Model 1: Amazon Arbitrage (Recommended for Beginners)

Buy from Amazon, sell on eBay. The advantages are fast delivery (1-2 days with Prime), easy returns, and trusted product quality. Margins are typically 15-30%. This is the safest way to start because delivery times are short and products are genuine.

Model 2: AliExpress Dropshipping

Source from AliExpress manufacturers in China. Product costs are much lower, so margins can reach 40-60%. However, delivery takes 7-20 days, which can lead to customer complaints. Best for unique or niche products not easily found on Amazon.

Our recommendation: Start with Amazon arbitrage to learn the business with low risk. Add AliExpress later for higher-margin products.

Step 1: Create Your eBay Account

Sign up for an eBay account if you do not have one. We recommend a business account from the start — it gives you higher selling limits and looks more professional. You will need your business name, address, and bank details for payouts.

Step 2: Set Up Your Supplier Accounts

For Amazon arbitrage, you need an Amazon Prime account in your target marketplace (Amazon.com for US, Amazon.co.uk for UK, Amazon.de for Germany, Amazon.com.au for Australia). The annual Prime fee pays for itself with the free shipping you save.

For AliExpress, create a free account at aliexpress.com. No subscription needed.

Step 3: Install Your Tools

Manual dropshipping is possible but extremely slow. A single listing takes 10-15 minutes to create manually. With the right tools, you can list in under 30 seconds.

UnicornDS is a Chrome extension built specifically for eBay dropshippers. It handles product research (finding profitable items), VERO checking (avoiding restricted brands), stock verification (confirming availability), and automated listing (creating eBay listings in one click).

The free plan gives you 10 listings per month — enough to test the business model before investing.

Step 4: Find Your First Products

Start with products that have high demand and low competition. Look for items with many reviews on Amazon (proven sellers) that are not heavily listed on eBay.

Using UnicornDS Product Hunter, search for keywords in your niche. The tool shows you Amazon products sorted by reviews, with price data and VERO status. You can also use the Competitor Scanner to see what successful eBay sellers are listing.

Tip: Start with 10-20 products in a niche you understand. Home and garden, pet supplies, and kitchen accessories are good beginner categories with many VERO-safe products.

Step 5: Create Your Listings

Each listing needs a keyword-rich title (80 characters), clear product images, accurate item specifics, a competitive price, and a detailed description.

With UnicornDS, you navigate to an Amazon product page and click one button. The extension scrapes the product data, generates an AI-optimised title, downloads images, calculates your selling price with your markup, and creates the eBay listing automatically.

Step 6: Make Your First Sale

With 10-20 active listings, you should see your first sale within a few days. When an order comes in, go to Amazon, purchase the product, and enter your eBay buyer's address as the shipping address. Amazon delivers directly to them.

Step 7: Scale Your Business

The formula is simple: more listings = more sales. Successful dropshippers typically run 500 to 3,000 active listings. At this scale, you might sell 10-50 items per day.

Use the Bulk Lister to create hundreds of listings at once. Use the Competitor Scanner to continuously find new products. Monitor your listings with the Tracker to catch stock issues early.

Expected Income Timeline

Month 1: 20-50 listings, 1-3 sales per day, £100-500 profit

Month 3: 200-500 listings, 5-15 sales per day, £500-2,000 profit

Month 6: 500-1,500 listings, 10-30 sales per day, £1,500-5,000 profit

Month 12: 1,000-3,000 listings, 20-50 sales per day, £3,000-10,000 profit

These are realistic figures based on typical margins of 15-30% per item. Your results will vary based on your product choices, pricing, and time invested.

Risks and How to Manage Them

VERO strikes: Always check the brand against the VERO list before listing. Read our complete VERO guide here.

Stock-outs: If Amazon runs out of stock after someone buys on eBay, you have to cancel the order. This hurts your metrics. Use the Stock Checker to verify availability regularly.

Returns: Budget 5-10% of revenue for returns. Accept them gracefully — good customer service leads to positive feedback and more sales.

Price changes: Amazon prices fluctuate. If the Amazon price rises above your eBay price, you lose money on that sale. Monitor prices and adjust listings regularly.
